Royal College, Colombo took a leaf out of their arch rival’s book when they occupied the crease for 95 overs to post 402 for four wickets at stumps against Kalutara Vidyalaya on day one of the Inter School Under-19 Division II cricket semi final at Dombagoda on Friday.
Royal’s arch rival S. Thomas’ advance to the final of the Division I tournament on Thursday. The Thomians occupied the crease for more than one and half days batting for 166 overs in the two-day match to take advantage of the points system.
Royal showed signs of emulating their arch rivals as their top order batsmen put on big stands to frustrate Kalutara Vidyalaya and showed no signs of declaring their innings.
The outcome of the semi final is crucial for both Royal and Kalutara Vidyalaya as they look forward for promotion to the Division I tournament.
The teams winning the two semi-finals will advance to the Division I tournament. Both Kalutara Vidyalaya and Royal have been trying hard to earn promotion to Division I tournament during the last couple of years.
Put to bat, Isiwara Dissanayake and Kamil Mishara added 145 runs for the first wicket and later Pasindu Sooriyabandara scored an unbeaten 146 runs and put on a stand of 184 runs for the fourth wicket with Kavindu Madarasinghe.
